Rosalie Emerick, 79, of Fort Wayne and formerly of Kendallville died Friday, August 28, 2015, at 10:30 p.m. in St. Anne Home in Fort Wayne.

She has lived in this area since 1964, coming from Chicago.

Mrs. Emerick was a first grade teacher for the East Noble School Corporation, starting in 1964. She retired after 33 years, having taught in Kendallville her entire career.

She was born April 20, 1936, to Antonio Jesus and Conception (Palacios) Mendez.

On November 15, 1955, she married Donald L. Emerick. He preceded her in death on April 28, 1996.

Surviving are two daughters, Laura Emerick of Chicago and Celeste Lengerich of Fort Wayne; a son, Mark Emerick of Fort Wayne; two grandchildren, Scott Nathan Lengerich and Natasha Emerick; two sisters, Sophia Alvarado of Chicago, and Elizabeth Postal of Burbank, California.

She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Michael Lengerich on January 27, 2015; two sisters, Mary Medina and Anne Hernandez; and two brothers, John Mendez and Robert Mendez.

Funeral services will be Friday, September 4, 2015, at 3 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Father Bernard Ramenaden of St. Gaspar Catholic Church in Rome City officiating. Burial will be in Woodruff Cemetery in LaGrange County.

Calling is Friday, September 4, 2015, from 2 to 3 p.m. in the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are to the East Noble School Corporation.

Mrs. Emerick was my oldest daughter's first grade teacher. She was a lovely lady and wonderful teacher. We are thankful for her part in our child's education. You have my deepest sympathy on your loss.
