Mary Elizabeth (Buckles) Young Schrader, 84, of Fort Wayne and formerly of Columbia City died Saturday, May 3, 2014, in Hospice Home, Fort Wayne with her family at her side.

She moved to Whitley County as a teenager from Indianapolis.

Mary began her career working as an x-ray technician at the Luckey Hospital in Wolf Lake. She spent the first two weeks of her life living in the Hancock County Jail under the care of the county sheriff. His wife named her Mary “Doe”. On September 19, 1949, in Whitley County she married Carl “Red” Young. He preceded her in death on December 9, 1958. Then, on May 14, 1966 she married H. Max Schrader. He preceded her in death on November 10, 1980.

Have many memories of Mary. She taught me how to make my favorite comfort food (eggs poached in milk over toast) when I stayed with her family at the farm at Burr Oak. Just remembering the many Christmas Days our families shared with the Buckles, the Youngs, the Bristows, over the past 65 years. An indelible memory is Mary dancing the Macarena at Jeff's wedding! Fun and loving memories. God's Blessings upon the Young/Schrader extended family. All my love, Jana.
