Obituary

Tilly Stevens, 84, of Kendallville died Tuesday, October 30, 2007, at 8:05 p.m. at her residence. She had been ailing for two years.

Mrs. Stevens had lived most of her life in this area, coming from Kentucky. She had worked as a nurses aid, and was a member of The Gospel Lighthouse Church in Kendallville.

She was born August 14, 1923, in Hueysville, Kentucky, to Benjamen and Burlie (Coburn) Shepherd. She married Henry Russell Stevens in Auburn on June 12, 1942. He preceded her in death on July 12, 1974.

Surviving are four daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn & Walt Leighton of Kendallville, Betty & Wayne Gose of LaGrange. Terri “Toby” Lockhart & Robert Keairnes of Kendallville, and Deborah & Robert Bloomfield of Wolcottville; four sons and two daughters-in-law, Gary Stevens of Kendallville, Larry & Joy Stevens of Sturgis, Michigan, Rick & Cindy Stevens of Kendallville, and Jim Stevens of Kendallville; 19 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; two sisters, Norma Lovely of Kendallville and Faye Shepherd of Hueysville, Kentucky; and one brother, Alex Shepherd of Kendallville.

She was preceded in death by one granddaughter, one great granddaughter, one sister, and three brothers.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday, November 2, 2007, at Young Family Funeral Home, 222 South State Street, Kendallville, with Pastor Zaundra Hicks of The Gospel Lighthouse Church officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville. Casketbearers will be Jason Combs, Tim Messer, Lester Martin, Greg Stevens, Nathan Combs, Ryan Strawser, Chris Messer, and Micky Stevens.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 1, 2007, from 1-3 and 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home. Preferred memorials are to Parkview Noble Home Health and Hospice.
