Joyce N. Diggins
June 29, 1923 - March 06, 2010
Joyce Needham Diggins, 86, of Kendallville died Saturday, March 6, 2010 in Parkview Hospital, Ft. Wayne.
The melody of her life lifted us all. Joyce always had a song in her heart, a flower in her garden and a kind word for everyone. Her belief in the goodness of mankind never failed her and her humility and passion for life was infectious.
Joyce was a devoted daughter and sister, cherished by none more than her nieces. She gave of her talents and passion freely, playing her beloved piano for Rotarians, Methodists, Baptists, friends and family. She was a compassionate and dedicated teacher; someone many of her students kept in touch with during their adult lives. Joyce’s fierce independence and self-sufficiency was inspirational to all who knew her. We will miss the sunshine our beloved “AJ” brought into our lives.
A graduate of Ball State Teacher’s College, Joyce Diggins retired after 39 years of teaching elementary school in Elkhart, Middlebury, and 28 years at North Side School in Kendallville. Always active in the community, Miss Diggins was a member of Indiana Retired Teachers Association, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Red Hats, Past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star and Trinity Church United Methodist in Kendallville.
