Obituary

Lorene Dekko Salsbery, 48, of Fort Wayne died Wednesday, December 16, 2009, at 5:21 p.m. in Parkview Hospital, Fort Wayne.

Lorene was a 1984 graduate of Hanover College, majoring in Communications. While at Hanover, she was a cheerleader and a member of Phi Mu Sorority. Lorene's smile, laughter, and spirit were characteristic throughout her life.

With an entreprenueurial spirit, she formed and ran her own business a few years before she became involved in the family business, Group Dekko. She then assumed the position of chief executive officer of The Dekko Foundation. She also served on the Board of Directors of the Freedom Academy and Three Rivers Montessori. Eventually, she combined her entrepreneurial spirit with her leadership skills and tremendous vision within the field of the education of children to create Oak Farm Montessori School of Avilla. Her legacy of education for children through her vision and guidance will impact generations.

She was born November 10, 1961, in Columbia City. She is the daughter of Chester E. Dekko and Erlene (Black) Dekko. Her father preceded her in death on September 25, 1992.

On November 23, 1985, in Kendallville she married Philippe Salsbery who survives in Fort Wayne. He is the owner of Q-doba Mexican Grill Restaurants in Indiana.

Also surviving are two daughters, Olivia and Sophia Salsbery, both at home; her mother, Erlene Dekko of Kendallville; a sister and brother-in-law, Erica Dekko and Tim Kochanski of Kendallville; a brother and sister-in-law, Tad and Pat Dekko of Naples, Florida; a niece, Paige Dekko; two nephews, Ryan Kochanski and Chase Dekko; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jack and Denise Salsbery of Indianapolis; a sister-in-law and her husband, Linda and Pat Calhoun of Indianapolis; and two brothers-in-law and their spouses, Scott and Karen Salsbery and Billie and Veronica Salsbery, all of Indianapolis.

A celebration of life service will be Monday, December 21, 2009, at 10 a.m. in The Chapel, 2505 W. Hamilton Road, Fort Wayne, with Pastor Rick Hawks officiating. Burial will be in Clear Lake Cemetery, Fremont.

Casketbearers will be Kyle Black, Tim Kochanski, Jon Roemke, Pat Calhoun, Scott Salsbery, and Billie Salsbery.

Calling is Sunday, December 20, 2009, from 2 to 8 p.m. in the Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville and one hour prior to the service at The Chapel on Sunday.
