Some of my memories of Helen Baird... She was a very special person. Very special! If she saw someone in need, she reached out to them, whether she knew them or not. She comforted those who needed comforting, those who needed to be put on the right track, and those who just needed to be jerked around verbally and put on the right way...especially the teenagers. She loved kids. She was sometimes ornery, and loved to pick on some of the men who came through the kitchen, and they passed it right back! She and I would come in early, and I would put her hair up. She was fun to work with. We all had bad days. Sometimes when she was down, I would go to her house and help her do what she had to do at that time, and we would talk about whatever it was. One time oh, she was doing laundry; I never saw that many socks in one big basket at one time! Sometimes we would go "junking" in the evening, just to see who was throwing away what. She was a wonderful cook. Up until the time that she got to where she just couldn't do it anymore, she cooked for an elderly gentleman who loved Helen's special pie that she made just for him every week. I can't remember the name of it. Helen Baird was a very VERY special person, who will have a special star in her crown. Love ya, lady!
