Phyllis J. Yoder, 90, of Kendallville died Saturday, March 30, 2019, at Lutheran Life Villages in Kendallville.

She was born May 17, 1928, in Kendallville to George and Margaret (Hunter) Hoak.

On December 23, 1946, in Topeka she married Maurice Yoder. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Yoder worked in the family business. In her retirement, she worked part-time at Family Dollar in Kendallville.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Kendallville and a former member of the Topeka Baptist Church.

Phyllis enjoyed knitting blankets to give to others, cooking for funeral dinners, sewing, and doing crafts. Working for her church was her greatest joy.

Surviving are a daughter, Jane (Danny) Whitaker of Osceola; a son, Michael (Linda) Yoder of Avilla; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Elizabeth (Eldon) Sumpter of LaGrange.

Funeral services will be Friday, April 5, 2019, at 2 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Chaplain Ken Weaver officiating. Burial will be in Eden Cemetery near Topeka.

Pallbearers are Mike Yoder, Danny Whitaker, Tyler Pappas, and Jon Pyfer.

Calling is Friday, April 5, 2019, from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Thoughts and prayers at this time.. I could always expect and enjoyed receiving a Christmas card from Phyllis every year. She will be missed.

Phyllis always brightend our day when we saw her in the Family Dollar store. She is greatly missed. Take comfort that she is with our Lord now.

So sorry for your loss. I still have two dolls Phyllis gave me when I was little and lived next door. She, Bonnie Miller, and my mom (Wava Roy) worked so hard for Topeka Baptist Church; Easter breakfast, chili suppers after caroling, the holiday bazaar and so much more. These women were iconic in my life and I strive to be as dedicated as they were.

SO Sorry to hear of Phyllis's Passing. We are so thankful that our Parents (Bill and Bonnie Miller) and Phyllis and Maury were Best Friends for a long time. I'm sure they are all "living it up" in Heaven, right now! Prayers for You All, Bruce,Brad and Bev Miller

I am so sorry to hear of Phyllis's passing. I lived in the Streb Apts and always enjoyed our get togethers. She was always a joy to be around. She will be missed.
