Obituary

Alice Anna Fields, 76, of Kendallville died Sunday, April 8, 2018, at 12:16 p.m. in Orchard Pointe Health Campus in Kendallville.

She was born May 15, 1941, in Kendallville to Willie J. and Ora (Rhodes) Fields.

Alice grew up in Woodruff, graduated from Wolcottville High School, and also from Purdue University with a bachelor’s degree in dietetics. After her internship at Milwaukee County Institutions in Wisconsin, she was employed at Elkhart, Indiana. She moved to Alaska and worked above the Arctic Circle at an Indian hospital with the Eskimos in Kotzebue. She then worked at the Mount Edgecombe Hospital across the bridge from Sitka, Alaska. She worked at the Zuni reservation at the Indian Health Hospital in New Mexico, enlarging the hospital dietary department when a new hospital opened there. She also did the same at the White River Indian Reservation in Arizona.

She moved to Chicago and finished her career with Health Care Financing Administration. In 1996, she returned to Woodruff and later to Kendallville.

She was a 50-year member of the American Dietetic Association, a member of Trinity Church United Methodist in Kendallville, the Good News Sunday School class, and the Red Hats.

Alice enjoyed collecting moose figurines, reading, gardening, raising roses and other flowers, swimming at the local YMCA, baking cookies for the church, crocheting potholders and hot pads for the church rummage sales, and visiting with friends and family.

Surviving are a nephew, Phillip Fields of Angola: and cousins, Allen (Sally) Rhodes of Auburn, Keith (Sharon) Rhodes of Riverside, California, Tom (Kay) Rhodes of Warsaw, Virginia, and LaVon (Bob) Rhodes-Housholder of LaOtto.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Willie Fields; and a sister, Mary Fields.

A memorial service will be held Monday, April 16, 2018, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Church United Methodist in Kendallville with Pastor Chris Stephens officiating.

A gathering of friends will be Monday, April 16, 2018, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.

In lieu of flowers, Alice’s wishes were for memorial donations to be made to Common Grace Ministries.

There are few experiences more difficult than losing a loved one in death; no doubt Ms. Fields will be sadly missed by all who knew her. I find comfort in knowing death was not God’s purpose for mankind and his purpose has not changed. His word is clear, “He will swallow up death forever, and the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will wipe away the tears from all faces”. (Isaiah 25:8; Revelation 21:4) Further, the restoration of life is guaranteed. Jesus spoke of the coming resurrection (John 5:21, 28, 29), performed resurrections and was himself resurrected by his Father. All such miraculous events took place on earth, giving us a glimpse of what is to come! (Acts 24:15) Until his promises are fulfilled, may Jehovah God continue to bless your family as you cherish the fond memories of Ms. Fields in the days ahead.....
