Obituary
John Robert Bruick, 63, of Clear Lake and formerly of Kendallville, died Thursday, September 28, 2017 at Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne from complications following surgery.
He was born February 11, 1954 in Fort Wayne to Robert M. and Phyllis G. (Meese) Bruick.
While growing up in New Haven, John attended St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne. He spent his childhood summers at Clear Lake, where he also attended Clear Lake Lutheran Church. John graduated from New Haven High School in 1972. Following high school, he worked for Zollner Corporation until 1977.
On December 17, 1976, John married Cheryle Heller in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Fort Wayne. In 1977, he began working for his father-in-law, Don Heller, as a well driller for Heller Well Drilling. In 1984, John purchased the business, becoming owner and president. In late 2015, he retired after being diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.
As a longtime member of Peace Lutheran Church, Fremont, John served as the head usher for Saturday evening services and was a member of the adult choir.
Survivors include his former spouse and their children Jessica, Joel, and Julia, as well as his beloved dog, Kip, all of Kendallville. He is also survived by his parents of Fort Wayne, his sister Cheryl (Michael) Sorge of Fort Wayne, his brother David (Rhonda) Bruick of Louisville, Kentucky, and former sister-in-law Lisa McCue of Clermont, Florida. Also surviving are nieces Tiffany Sorge-Smith, Lindsay Bruick, Carly Sorge, Lindsay McCue, Allyson McCue and nephews Ryan Bruick, Nicholas Bruick, Martin Sorge, four great-nieces and three great-nephews.
John was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Don and JoAnn Heller.
Visitation and funeral services will be held Saturday, October 14, 2017 at Young Family Funeral Home in Kendallville. Visitation will be from 10am to 1pm, with the funeral service immediately following at 1pm, officiated by Reverand Jeffrey Teeple of Peace Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in John’s memory to the Humane Society of Noble County, PO Box 471, Kendallville, IN 46755.

I am so sorry to hear of John's passing. He will be remembered for all of his visits to the library and the discussions we've had regarding his love of music. What an all around nice guy. My thoughts are with his family during this time.
