Obituary
Donna J. Schmidt, 88, of Kendallville died Monday, February 6, 2017, in Parkview Noble Hospital, Kendallville.
She was born December 12, 1928, to Roger D. and Glada (Latta) Dillon.
On August 12, 1949, in Kendallville she married Paul J. Schmidt. He preceded her in death on December 14, 1993.
Mrs. Schmidt had worked at the Kendallville Telephone office and St. Joe Hospital in Fort Wayne. In 1955, she began working at the Campbell & Fetter Bank in Kendallville where she retired as Assistant Cashier with over 50 years of service.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Kendallville and the Rosary Sodality. She also served on the Noble County Community Concert Association for over 30 years. She was a member of Tri Kappa, first as an active member of Gamma Xi in 1947 and the Beta Associate Chapter in 1978 where she served as President for 11 years. She was also a member and past president of the Professional Business Women’s Association, past member of American Legion Post 86 Auxiliary, served on the Kendallville High School Reunion Committee for several years, the Kendallville Bowling Association, and was a Big Brothers/Big Sisters sponsor.
Donna’s family was always first. Among her many loves were baking, knitting, crocheting, tending to her flower garden, raising and releasing Monarch butterflies, following and attending Cardinal baseball games, and attending countless sporting events in which her grandchildren and great-grandchildren participated. She also dearly loved spending time with her classmates of 1947.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Stan and Michele Schmidt of Kendallville; a son-in-law, Dave Desper of Kendallville; a daughter-in-law, Michelle Schmidt of Bristol; nine grandchildren, Christopher (Julie) Desper, Amy (Jon) DeWitt, Matt Desper, Stacey (Rick Tucker) Schmidt, Tricia (Mike) Wray, Stanley Schmidt, II, Nathan (Elisha) Schmidt, Nicole Schmidt, and Elizabeth Schmidt; and 13 great-grandchildren, Ryan Desper, Kayla Desper, Tristan DeWitt, Mya DeWitt, Alyssa Desper, Riley Desper, Brittany Schmidt, Lexi Hockett, Teegyn Schmidt, Maxwell Schmidt, Oakley Kerst, Brock Kerst, and Zayden Gibson.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Desper; a son, Terry Schmidt; and a brother, Duane Dillon.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, February 10, 2017, at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 319 East Diamond Street, Kendallville with Father James Stoyle officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, LaGrange.
Honorary pallbearers are Larry Sherer, Dennis Nartker, Dr. Terry Gaff, Dennis Reeves, Dave Swartz, and Wendall Lane. Active pallbearers are Mike Wray, Rick Tucker, Chris Desper, Matt Desper, Nate Schmidt, Stan Schmidt, II, and Jon DeWitt.
Calling is Thursday, February 9, 2017, from 2 to 8 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville where a Vigil Service will be held at 2 p.m.
Preferred memorials are Masses to the church or to the Noble County Community Concert Association.

I knew Donna from here work at the bank for many years and so appreciated her Cher full approach to every encounter.

A lovely kind and beautiful. I have known Donna since I was a little girl,my Grandma and Grandpa Lane lived across the street from the Schmidts. Later in my life I enjoyed my times with Donna at BPW and Tri Kappa. Donna was at our Christmas Party in December. I am so grateful that I was able to have a nice talk with her.
