William R. "Bill" Vanderpool, 87, of Wolcottville died Sunday, February 5, 2017, in Parkview Noble Hospital, Kendallville.
He was born October 4, 1929, in Handshoe, Kentucky, to Charlie and Amanda (Crager) Vanderpool.
He honorably serve, in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 and was stationed in Korea.
On June 21, 1954, in Wolcottville he married Phyllis I. Keck. She survives in Wolcottville.
Mr. Vanderpool had worked at McCray Refrigeration in Kendallville for 15 ½ years, Ex-cello and Starcraft Boats both in Topeka and retired in 1990.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Wolcottville and the American Legion.
Bill was a collector. He enjoyed fishing on Cree Lake and Atwood Lake. He loved to hunt, spending his days after retirement in the Mongo Game Preserve with his dog, Jack. He raised Beagles and Coon Hounds. Tying and selling flies at flea markets was a hobby he enjoyed.
Also surviving are two daughters, Susan Bryant of Atwood Lake and Sara Fox of Sturgis, Michigan; three sons, Tim Vanderpool of LaGrange, Tom Vanderpool of Atwood Lake, and Dan Vanderpool of Sturgis, Michigan; nine grandchildren, Tara Price, Rachel Vanderpool, Robin (Ryan) Murphy, Lindy Miller, Bill Bryant, Jevon (Missy) Fox, Skyler McClish, Ethan Vanderpool, and Emma Vanderpool; five great-grandchildren; two sisters , Ann (Curt) Howard of Van Lear, Kentucky, and Helen Donnaker of Kendallville; and a brother, Steve (Diane) Vanderpool of LaGrange.
He was preceded in death by a son, Bob Vanderpool and several brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will be Thursday, February 9, 2017, at 11 a.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville with Pastor Keith Perry of the First Baptist Church in Wolcottville officiating. Burial will be at a later date.
Honor guard services will be provided by Rome City American Legion Post 381, Kendallville VFW Post 2749, and Kendallville American Legion Post 86.
Calling is Wednesday, February 8, 2017, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to The Farm in LaGrange County.
