William H.
Lane, Jr.
May 16, 1943 – March 6, 2024
William Henry Lane Jr. passed on March 6, 2024. He was born on May 16, 1943, in Burlington, Indiana to
William and Sarah (Starbuck) Lane, who both preceded him in death. He graduated from Burlington High
School in 1961 and North Manchester College with his Bachelor's in 1965 and his Master's in Education
in 1971 at St. Francis College.
Bill taught for 2 years in the Maconaquah School Corporation before moving to the East Noble School
Corporation in 1967 where he taught Science and Health for 31 years. While teaching, he was also a
Driver's Education Instructor and coached many sports at the Middle and High School Levels.
Bill believed in being active through his life. He helped start and/or grow the Tennis and Golf programs at
East Noble High School and led his teams to a number of sectional titles. He also coached basketball for
Kendallville Middle School for most of his teaching career, and then was an assistant coach with the
Central Noble Basketball team.
After retiring from teaching, Bill started working at Noble Hawk Golf Links filling many roles through the
years. He also played many rounds there and won many titles at the various events at the course, and is
credited with at least 4 Holes-in-One at the course. In addition to playing golf, Bill also loved to go fishing
and hunting and for many years would have trips to Canada and Ohio to do so.
Bill is survived by 3 sons, Kevin (Travis) of Kendallville, Brian (Stacye) of Greenwood, Indiana and Jared
(Jylyan) currently stationed in Jacksonville, Florida with the US Navy; Four Grandchildren, Halle and Tyler
and Jalyssa and Jayvin; and his brother Jack Lane of Burlington, Indiana and sisters Mary McAninch and
Melody Kilty also both of Burlington, Indiana.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville is assisting the family with arrangements.
