William Mac Grossman, 89, of Kendallville died Thursday, April 12, 2012, at 6:30 a.m. in Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne.
He graduated from Kendallville High School in 1941.
From 1946 to 1980, he and his wife owned and operated Grossman's Hardware in Wolcottville.
They moved to Florida in 1980 and in 2001 returned to Kendallville.
Mr. Grossman was a member of Trinity Church United Methodist, Kendallville and the Masonic Lodge. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Mac enjoyed being a ham radio operator, fishing, and his grandchildren.
He was born June 15, 1922, in Wolcottville to William Lloyd and Justine Eloise (McCormick) Grossman. On January 25, 1942, in Decatur he married Helen Marie Cox. She survives in Kendallville.
Also surviving are a son, William John and Brenda Grossman of Mableton, Georgia; three daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy E. and Frank Jones of Fort Myers, Florida, Phyllis M. and Daniel Brothers, of Sturgis, Michigan, and Justine and Lynn Garrison of Kendallville; 10 grandchildren, Mike and Candy Grossman, Heather Henderson, Ernest and Kaonna Blowers, Pati and John May, Susan and Dale Large, James and Kelaine Brothers, Kathryn Currier, Michelle and Tom Hague, Vicki and Andy Coats, and Lynn M. and Janie Garrison; a step grandchild, Cindy and Butch Ohner; 26 great grandchildren, Jeff Gouker, Felicia Grossman, Andrea Grossman, Loreta Jo Henderson, Jason Blowers, Amanda Banzile, Logan May, Ariel May, Katie Large, Meaghan Large, Alex Large, Courtney St Louis, Austin St Louis, Shyanna Brothers, Reaundra Brothers, Sienna Brothers, Calyssa Brothers, Alanah Brothers, Mileah Brothers, baby Brothers (due any day), Christina Coats, Isaac Coats, Jacob Coats, Rayanna Garrison, Addison Garrison, Jalynn Garrison; two step great grandchildren, Robbie Hiles and McKenzie Ohner; five great great grandchildren, Landon Marsh, Bella Blowers, Emre Patton, Jackson Banzile, and Lilly Ann Hiles; a sister, Beverly Gillespie of Wolcottville; a special cousin that was more like a brother, Homer Adams of Texas; a special family friend, Helen Baird; and the family cat, Precious.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, James Mac Grossman.
There will be no calling or services.
Private funeral services were held Sunday in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville, with Pastor Steve Brittenham of Trinity Church United Methodist in Kendallville officiating. Burial was in Woodland Cemetery in Wolcottville.
Casketbearers were Lynn Garrison, Justine Garrison, Daniel Brothers, Phyllis Brothers, Lynn M. Garrison, Dale Large, Tom Hague, Andy Coats, Ernest Blowers, and Mike Grossman.
Preferred memorials are to the Noble County Humane Shelter, and may be sent to the funeral home.
