Obituary

William A. Cartwright, 95, of Fort Wayne died Friday, October 20, 2017, at the home of his granddaughter in Harlan.

He was born May 24, 1922, in Fort Wayne to Floyd and Mary (Blue) Cartwright.

Mr. Cartwright was a 1940 graduate of South Side High School in Fort Wayne. In 1947, he graduated from Indiana University with a degree in business.

He honorably served in the U.S. Army Infantry during World War II from 1943 to 1946.

William worked for 42 years in the petroleum equipment industry, having worked at Bowser Incorporated, Wayne Pump, and Tokheim Incorporated all in Fort Wayne before moving south. He retired in 1990 as Vice President of Marketing at Tronitec Incorporated in Marietta, Georgia.

He was a member of Trinity English Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne, Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity at IU, and IU Alumni Association. He was an avid IU basketball fan.

Surviving are three daughters, Mary Lynn (Gary) Muntz of Waterville, Ohio, Jenny (Jim) Dougal of Woodburn, and Julia (David) Shadwick of Byron, Georgia; 10 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; three stepchildren, Nancy, Lynda, and Roger; and many stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 52 years and the mother of his children M. Frances (Bishop) Cartwright on April 2, 1997, and his second wife of 15 years, Phyllis Nordeen Cartwright on January 6, 2017.

Funeral services will be Thursday, October 26, 2017, at 12:30 p.m. at Trinity English Lutheran Church, 450 West Washington Boulevard, Fort Wayne. Entombment will be in Lindenwood Cemetery, Fort Wayne.

Calling is Thursday, October 26, 2017, from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the church.

Preferred memorials are to Parkview Home Health & Hospice or Trinity English Lutheran Church and may be mailed to the funeral home.
