William John "Will" Becker, 19, of Topeka died Wednesday, August 13, 2008, at 3:33 p.m. as the result of a moped/auto accident at LaGrange County Road 200 North and 500 West. He was a lifetime area resident of Topeka.

Will was a 2008 graduate of Westview High School, graduating with honors and fourth in his senior class. He was a member of the National Honor Society, the National Art Honor Society, and the Speech Club. He had received an academic ring from Westview High School for maintaining a 3.5 or higher grade point average for four years. He was the Westview High School prom king this past spring. He was a ten-year member of the LaGrange County 4-H, showing goats, rabbits, chickens, and numerous other projects. He attended the National Youth Leadership Forum in Washington, D.C., and was invited to and attended the Richard Lugar Symposium in Indianapolis.

He was a member of Community Fellowship Church in Topeka, the Bible Memory Program, and the youth group at Shore Mennonite Church in Shipshewana. He had attended and been a counsellor at several Christian youth camps. He had worked at the Blue Gate Restaurant in Shipshewana, the West Edge service station in Topeka, and most recently, for his father's construction business. He was to attend Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana, next week to study meteorology.

Will was born October 19, 1988, in LaGrange, Indiana, to Mike and Jeanne (Snyder) Becker. They survive in Topeka.

Also surviving are a sister, Caitlin Becker of Topeka; maternal grandparents, Clarence and Marlene Campbell of Topeka; paternal grandparents, Donald and Mary Becker of Topeka; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Colton James Becker on July 28, 2007.

Funeral services will be Monday, August 18, 2008, at 10 a.m. at the Shore Mennonite Church, 7235 W US 20, Shipshewana, with Pastor Lyn Stutzman of Community Fellowship Church in Topeka officiating. Casketbearers will be Zach Bontrager, Brad Stutzman, Adam Whitmer, Todd Richardson, Micah Horner, and Nathan Sharick. Burial will be in Eden Cemetery at Topeka.

Calling will be Sunday, August 17, 2008, from 3 to 8 p.m. at the church and also on Monday one hour prior to services.

Preferred memorials are to the William Becker Fund at Farmers State Bank, 109 West Main Street, Topeka, Indiana, 46571.
