Obituary

Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at 12 Noon in Liberty Free Will Baptist Church, 2900 E 1150 N, Wolcottville with Pastor Terry Hinds officiating. Burial will be in Orange Cemetery.

Calling is Monday, October 14, 2013, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the church with an evening service at 6 p.m. Call will also be one hour prior to services at Tuesday. ***************************************************************************** Walter H. "Walt" Pogue, 76 of Avilla died Thursday, October 10, 2013, in his residence.

He has lived in this area for 30 years, coming from Kentucky.

Mr. Pogue retired as an electrician for McCray Memorial Hospital in Kendallville.

He was a member of Liberty Free Will Baptist Church in Wolcottville.

He honorably served in the U.S. Navy.

Walt enjoyed fishing and traveling. He loved his church and often read poems during the services. He dearly loved his grandchildren.

He was born June 24, 1937, in Beech Creek, Kentucky, to Floyd Cleo and Beatrice Thelma (Ashby) Pogue.

On December 26, 1993, in Brimfield, he married Shelby (Hicks) Chaffins.

Surviving are his wife, Shelby Pogue of Avilla; two daughters, Masie (Marc) Vance of Kendallville and Angie Nordman of Kendallville; a son, Philip Chaffins of Kendallville; seven grandchildren, Josh Sparkman, Ashlynn Sparkman, Kayla Vance, Matthew Vance, River Chaffins, Gary Chaffins, and Zeke Chaffins; five sisters; and five brothers.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Joey Sparkman.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 15, 2013, at 12 Noon in Liberty Free Will Baptist Church, 2900 E 1150 N, Wolcottville with Pastor Terry Hinds officiating. Burial will be in Orange Cemetery.

Honor guard services will be provided by Kendallville VFW Post 2749, American Legion Post 381, and active duty members of the military.

Calling is Monday, October 14, 2013, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the church with an evening service at 6 p.m. Calling will also be one hour prior to services on Tuesday.

Preferred memorials are to the family.
