Smith (Smitty), 66, of Kendallville died Thursday, October 3, 2013, at 5:31 p.m. in the emergency room at Parkview Noble Hospital in Kendallville.

Tom was an avid sports fan and enjoyed coaching Kendallville Little League Baseball for many years. He also had a passion for cars and could be found helping a friend in need when their car wouldn't start or mysteriously ended up in the ditch.

Most importantly, he was a supportive loving husband and father who loved being called "epaw" and "papaw" by his four grand kids. "Uncle Tom" was a badge that he wore proudly and all nephews and nieces knew he was only a call away to help them with anything. Tom was a friend to most who walked into his life and was a big fan of our Kendallville community.

He was born March 19, 1947, in Kendallville to Gale and Bonnie (Hile) Smith.

On June 9, 1968, in Kendallville he married Kathy Brennan. She survives in Kendallville.

Also surviving are two sons, Eric (Linda) Smith of Avilla and Nathan (Amy) Smith of San Jose, California; four grandchildren, Brennan Smith, Riley Smith, Mason Smith, and Justin Ramsay; a sister, Sandy (Carl) Altimus of Kendallville; two nieces, Jodi (Jeff) Manier of Kendallville and Mindy (Steve) Bobay of Kendallville; a great-niece, Jamie Manier; a great-nephew, Justin Manier and many, many Smith and Hile cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
