IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Thomas
Wright
November 8, 1927 – March 31, 2023
Thomas "Tommy" Wright, 95, of Kendallville passed away peacefully on Friday, March 31, 2023, at his home with family by his side. He was born in Little Crab, Tennessee, on November 8, 1927, to the late Edna & Juno Wright. His mother died at a young age but the family was later blessed with their stepmother, Maudie. He was the last of his siblings – Harlen, Mae, Rosie and Bill have since preceded him in death.
He is survived by five children, Karen Vanderbilt, Mona Wright, Tom Wright, Deborah Moore and Kim Wright; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 6 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
His youngest son, Keith Wright, preceded him in death which caused him great sadness. He always wanted to bring those involved to justice – his kind of justice. In addition to his son, two grandchildren, Aaron and Jennifer, and a great-granddaughter, Aaliyah, preceded him in death.
He retired from Dexter Axel, but worked at Essex Wire for 23 years. One of the jobs he reminisced the most about was at the service station working for Peanut. He said, "The most I ever made was nine dollars per hour." But he wouldn't change a thing.
After retirement, he enjoyed spending time at the lake, restoring mobile homes, keeping his lawn (and others) looking good and visiting the Kendallville Eagles for an afternoon refreshment. He was also known to offer a sarsaparilla or a shot of the good stuff if you looked thirsty.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He appreciated the ones who traveled far to see him during his final days. He had many loves in his life, some he had lost and never forgotten.
Graveside services will be Monday, April 3, 2023, at 2:15 p.m. at Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville, with Pastor Regan Ford officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made in his honor to the American Cancer Society or The Salvation Army.
Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville is assisting the family with arrangements.
