Thomas Lee Rofkahr of Wolcottville, Indiana, died Saturday afternoon, January 14, 2023. His passing was unexpected, yet peaceful and in the company of his wife and daughters.
Tom was born on October 4, 1945, in Sturgis, Michigan. He was the only son of Gladys Lucille (Bowditch) and Clement William Rofkahr of LaGrange, Indiana. Tom grew up in LaGrange with his two sisters, Kay Sanders and Ann Rofkahr. Upon graduation from high school he enlisted in the Navy, where he sailed over 50 thousand miles on The USS Greenwich Bay. He was honorably discharged on October 3, 1968.
He was a member of the Rome City American Legion Post 381. Tom was also a reserve police officer and volunteer fireman in LaGrange County.
Tom married the love of his life, Stacy Holzapfel, on September 12, 1987, and they remain forever in love in his passing.
Tom opened and operated Lakeland Title Company for over 30 years. After retirement, he remained busy woodworking, renovating homes of his own, fishing, boating, and spending time with his family and friends. Tom was always known for his joke telling. He and his wife loved spending time together in their home on Atwood Lake.
Tom is preceded in death by his parents and a grandson, Luc Schincariol. He is survived by his wife, Stacy; daughters, Leigh (Paul) Schincariol and Loren (Rob) Van Oss; sisters, Kay Sanders and Ann Rofkahr; and grandchildren, Trino (Ashley) Schincariol, Mary Schincariol, Ruby Schincariol and Isla Van Oss.
The family plans to hold a memorial service at a later date in accordance with Tom's wishes. Memorial contributions can be made to Luc's Light Youth Music & Arts Foundation (lucslight.org), a charity formed by Tom's family in honor of his grandson.
