Ted Strawser, 81, of LaGrange and formerly of Wolcottville died Tuesday, January 31, 2017, in Parkview LaGrange Hospital in LaGrange.
He was born July 1, 1935, in Steuben County to Earl George and Emma Lavada (Wilcox) Strawser.
He attended school at Huff Corners and LaGrange.
Mr. Strawser honorably served in the U.S. Air Force from 1952 to 1956 during the Korean War. He served in France, Germany, and three bases in the United States.
On October 7, 1958, in Wolcottville he married Peggie A. Smith. She survives in LaGrange.
He was the owner and operator of Patterson's Furniture Store in Wolcottville and the Wolcottville Antique Mall.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of LaGrange. Ted was a volunteer active in many organizations, such as the American Red Cross, LaGrange County Council on Aging, Habitat for Humanity, Relay for Life, Kendallville VFW Post 2749, and LaGrange American Legion Post 215.
Ted enjoyed choir, mission programs at the church, and asking for donations to support Council on Aging and Youth for Christ programs. In 2009, he was named the LaGrange Citizen of the Year. He worked for over a year putting names on the monument at the Court House Square in LaGrange.
Also surviving are two daughters, Sherri (John) Larimer of Howe and Teresa (Tyrone) Stewart of Caledonia, Michigan; a son, Michael (Karen) Strawser of Wolcottville; seven grandchildren, Mark (Beverly) Larimer, David (Angelique) Larimer, Rebekah (Brad) Trump, Jennifer (Ben) DeMaagd, Kimberly Stewart, Bryce Strawser, and Colton Strawser; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Beers of Holly Hill, Florida; and a brother, Bud Strawser of Toledo, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by five sisters, Wava Brooks, Donna McDonald, Tillie Skeels, Wilma Strawser, and Rhoda Rose Strawser; and two brothers, Dean Strawser and Herbert Strawser.
Funeral services will be Saturday, February 4, 2017, at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of LaGrange, 209 West Spring Street, LaGrange with Pastor Chris Lantz and Pastor Andrea Lantz officiating.
Calling is Friday, February 3, 2017, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the church.
Honor guard services will be provided by LaGrange American Legion Post 215.
Preferred memorials are to the First United Methodist Church of LaGrange or to the Parkview Noble Foundation to be designated for the Therapy Department for the Parkinson's Group.
