Calling: Tuesday, February 18, 2014 - 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the funeral home ********************************************************************************* Susie Rhodes, 95, of Avilla died Monday, February 10, 2014 at 7:10 p.m. in Presence Sacred Heart Home, Avilla.
She worked for 18 years at G.C. Murphy, Co. in Kendallville.
Mrs. Rhodes was a member of the Women of the Moose Chapter 730 for 44 years and the American Legion Post 240 Auxiliary in Avilla for 21 years.
Susie enjoyed crocheting and was an excellent seamstress. And, she made the best homemade noodles.
She was born June 21, 1918, in Davis County to George & Leona (Bollinger) Scott. She married George L. Rhodes on July 12, 1937 in Huntertown. He preceded her in death on December 5, 1997.
Surviving are four daughters, Connie (Gene) Leighty, Dorothy (Larry) Jarrett, Donna Hale, and Norma (Larry) Kimmell all of Kendallville; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 16 great great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Pearl Rhodes of Avilla, Fern Sage of Huntertown, and Agnes Scott of Huntertown; a brother-in-law, Donald Rhodes of Avilla; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, and four sisters.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 18, 2014, at 1 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Chaplain Tom Novy of Presence Sacred Heart Home, Avilla and Pastor Steve Bahrt of Faith United Methodist Church, Kendallville officiating. Burial will be in the Cedar Creek Cemetery in Garrett.
Pallbearers will be David Hale, Doug Kimmell, Michael Jarrett, Duane Leighty, Dan Leighty, and Larry Leighty.
Calling is Tuesday, February 18, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville.
