Obituary

Steven J. VanWye, 68, of Hudson, Indiana, died Friday, July 17, 2026, at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

He was born on December 26, 1957, in Angola, Indiana to Donald and Genevieve (Curley) VanWye.

On February 3, 2001, in Las Vegas, Nevada, he married April A. (White) VanWye.

Steven was a lifelong farmer and the owner of VanWye Dairy Farms. In addition to farming, he worked in construction for many years. On a whim, he purchased the Shady Nook Tavern, which he proudly owned and operated for the next 20 years. Steven was a member of St. Mary’s of the Angels Catholic Church in rural Hudson.

He enjoyed traveling, attending races, and cheering on whatever sporting events were happening at the time. Above all, he treasured time with his grandchildren. Some of his happiest moments were spent sharing ice cream with them—even if it took several years to discover the frozen treat they all agreed was the favorite. His love for his family, his hardworking spirit, and the memories he created with those he loved will be cherished always.

Surviving are his wife, April VanWye of Hudson; a daughter, Samantha (Timothy) VanWye-Shaw of Kendallville; a son, Michael (Kayla) VanWye-White of Ashley; seven grandchildren, Hudson, Bryson, Siarha, Jaylin, Hope, Evan, and Tresyn; three sisters, Kathy Camarda, Jenny Doriot, and Debbie Martin; and six brothers, Bill VanWye, Joe VanWye, Dan VanWye, Jeff VanWye, Dave VanWye, and Jerry VanWye.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be Wednesday, July 22, 2026, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. with a rosary service at 6 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Hudson/Ashley Chapel, 612 North Main Street, Hudson.

Visitation will also be on Thursday, July 23, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s of the Angels Catholic Church, 5965 S 1025 E, Hudson.

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, at 11 a.m. at the church.

Burial will follow in Wright Cemetery near Hudson.
