Obituary

Steven Michael Smith, 71, of Hudson passed away Monday, June 4, 2018, at 1:55 a.m. at Betz Nursing Home, Auburn.

He was born May 2, 1947, in Garrett to Richard C. Smith and Freada M.(Pairan) Smith Atkins.

On July 3, 1966, he united in marriage with Marlene K. Hart and she survives in Hudson.

Also surviving are their children, Stephanie and Kelly Snyder of Hudson, Candy and Dan King of Fremont, Rick and Brooke Smith of Pleasant Lake, Kallie Egly of Hudson and honorary foster son, Kevin and Stacey Fry of Tampa. Florida. Also surviving are grandchildren, Jeremy and Sheleaha Egly, Jonathon and Ashlee Egly, Joseph Egly, Jackie and Stephen Shoup, Rachael Hubbard, Anthony and Emily Stickan Hubbard, Danny III and Brittany King, Friday and David Reed, Diana King, two honorary grandchildren, BreAnn and Spencer Perkins and Jasmin Wengerd; 16 great-grandchildren; four honorary great-grandchildren; and two former sons-in-law, Dale Egly, Jr. and Tony Hubbard; two sisters, Sharon and Woodie Caywood of Fort Wayne and Sandra Smith of Hudson; and a brother, Stuart Douglas "Doug" and Sue Smith of Albion.

Steve was a member of the Pleasant Chapel Church of the Brethren. He retired after 44 years at Rieke Corporation in Auburn. He served over 20 years as a member of the Hudson Volunteer Fire Department and was elected to two terms on the Hudson Town Council. He enjoyed fishing, trapping, hunting and spending time with his family.

Funeral services will be Thursday, June 7, 2018, at 10 a.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Hudson-Ashley Chapel, 612 North Main Street, Hudson with Pastor Valarie Kline of Pleasant Chapel Church of the Brethren officiating. Burial will be in Circle Cemetery, Hudson.

Pallbearers will be Rick Smith, Dan King, Jonathon Egly, Joseph Egly, Stephen Shoup and Anthony Hubbard.

Calling is Wednesday, June 6, 2018, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Thursday.

Preferred memorials are to the Pleasant Chapel Church of the Brethren or the Alzheimer's Association.
