Stephen Lynn Reade, 57, of Wolcottville died Sunday, September 11, 2016 at 3:39 a.m. in Parkview Regional Medical Center, Fort Wayne, where he had been a patient for ten days.
He was a lifetime area resident. Stephen called Atwood Lake "his lake", having lived on it for over 50 years. He drove on the lake, skated, and ice fished in the winter and also liked to fish in the summer. Watching the wildlife was a favorite of his, the eagles, geese, ducks, and deer had a special place in his heart. Stephen loved animals, especially dogs, they rule!
Mr. Reade worked in construction. He enjoyed working with natural wood. Many of the homes in the area were built or remodeled by him. He had also worked on the drafting for the Cook Nuclear Plant near Bridgman, Michigan.
Stephen was a very emotional, caring, and loving person. Always ready to help others.
He was born April 6, 1959 in Kendallville, the son of Billy K. and Naomi Edith (Merriman) Reade. His mother preceded him in death on February 28, 1992. His father survives at Atwood Lake.
Also surviving is his companion Alma Lipitt of Wolcottville, and her family, 1st Sgt. (Ret.) Anthony Lipitt, Cynthia Yoder, Susan Akagi, and Warrant Officer (Ret.) Charles Clifton; a stepsister, Alta (Duane) Targgart of Wolcottville; three nephews, Alan (Anita) Targgart of Kendallville, Todd (Renee) Targgart of Beaver Creek, Ohio, and Brooks (Heidi) Targgart of Fort Wayne; seven great-nieces and nephews, Hillary Keller, Shea Targgart, Shelby Targgart, Tate Targgart, Tori Targgart, Turner Targgart, and Tanner Targgart; and two great great-nieces and nephews, Kennedy Keller and Knox Keller.
Private family services will be held at Jay and Ronda Johnston's home on Atwood Lake with Pastor Charles Mosley of Harbor of Love Baptist Church in Kendallville officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Wolcottville.
Preferred memorials are to Ark Animal Sanctuary, 0530 E 300 S, LaGrange, IN 46761.
