Sophronia Godsey, 79, of Hudson died Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at the home of her daughter in Wolcottville.

She was born on January 7, 1943 in Hindman, Kentucky to Austin and Hollie (Polly) Ritchie.

On June 5, 1959 she married Leon H. Godsey. He preceded her in death on January 10, 2021.

Mrs. Godsey retired from Starcraft Marine, where she had worked for over 30 years.

Sophronia enjoyed watching soap operas. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Her face would light up when they were around.

Surviving are two daughters, Shirley Wallace of LaGrange and Brenda (Mark) Elion of Wolcottville; three sons, Austin (Retha) Godsey of Hudson, Rick (Robin) Godsey of Ashley, and Leon C. Godsey of Hudson; 12 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren; a sister, Lutisha Ritchie of Hindman, Kentucky; and two brothers, Ben Ritchie of Houston, Texas and Truman Ritchie of Mongo.

She was also preceded in death by a son-in-law, Keith Wallace; two sisters, Kizzy VanBuren and Dicey Featherstone; and nine brothers, Oscar Ritchie, Hubert Ritchie, Lousie Ritchie, Leonard Ritchie, Edmond Ritchie, Robert Ritchie, Corbet Ritchie, Marion Ritchie and an infant brother.

Funeral services will be Friday, September 30, 2022, at 2 p.m. at Bethel Christian Baptist Church, 2838 East US 6, Kendallville, near the intersection with State Road 9 North, West of Kendallville with Pastor Larry Anglemyer, Sr. of Kelly Street Baptist Church in Rome City officiating.

Burial will follow at Brushy Chapel Cemetery in LaGrange County.

Pallbearers are Blake Sturdivant, A.J. Godsey, Mark Elion, Dylan Williams, Marcus Godsey, and Merle Yoder.

Visitation is Friday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the church.
