Sarah H. "Hazel" Jacobs, 71, of Topeka, Indiana, ran through the gates of Heaven, surrounded by her family on Saturday, July 17, 2021, at Parkview LaGrange Hospital in LaGrange.
She was born April 13, 1950 in Hindman, Kentucky to Arthur and Juanita (Adkins) Ritchie. They preceded her in death.
On August 9, 1969 in Cromwell she married Joseph C. Jacobs, Sr. He survives in Topeka.
Mrs. Jacobs was a homemaker.
She was a member of Liberty Freewill Baptist Church in Wolcottville.
Hazel loved playing her guitar and singing for the Lord. Possessing a great sense of humor, she loved to laugh and talk. Her family will remember her as a mighty encourager who had her own sense of style in her choice of hats, boots, and clothing. She enjoyed tending to her rose bushes. But most importantly, she lived for the Lord.
Also surviving are a daughter, Connie (Barry) Thiessen of Columbia City; three sons, Joey (Rhonda) Jacobs of Cromwell, Jamey (Gwen) Jacobs of Statesville, North Carolina, and Joseph C. (Lisa Cochran) Jacobs, Jr. of Topeka; seven grandchildren, Joey Jacobs, Jr., Heather Jacobs, Stephen (Britni) McIntosh, Kayla (Colin) Briggs, Christopher Smith, Tyler Thiessen, and Gavin Portness; three great-grandchildren, Aaliyah Briggs, Liam Briggs, and Charlotte McIntosh; three sisters, Martha (Warren) Halsey of Ligonier, Alpha Wilcox of Ligonier, Debbie (Al) Carpenter of Ossian; five brothers, Dan (Brenda) Ritchie of Wolcottville, Arthur "Dick" (Debbie) Ritchie of Ligonier, Bobby Ritchie of Topeka, Oscar (Suzanne) Ritchie of Kentucky, and Charles "Chuck" (Belinda) Ritchie of Kentucky, and a sister-in-law, Debbie Hall of Florida.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Shannon Jacobs; a sister, Virginia Jacobs; three brothers, Donald Ray Ritchie, Dellano Ritchie, and Glen Ritchie; two sisters-in-law, Barb Ritchie and Stella Ritchie; and a brother-in-law, Charles Jacobs.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at 2 p.m.at Liberty Freewill Baptist Church, 2900 E 1150 N-57, Wolcottville with Pastor Billy Fields officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be Tyler Thiessen, Terry Jacobs, and Barry Thiessen. Active pallbearers will be Stephen McIntosh, Joey Jacobs, Sr., Joey Jacobs, Jr., Jamey Jacobs, Christopher Smith, and Joseph Jacobs, Jr.
Burial will follow at Orange Cemetery near Rome City.
Visitation is Wednesday, July 21, 2021, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church.
Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville is assisting the family with arrangements.
