Sadie Mae Grate, 94, of Ashley, Indiana, died Friday, March 1, 2024, at her residence surrounded by her family.
She was born December 13, 1929, in Noble County to Jim and Bertha (Betts) Owens.
In January 1974, she married Herbert Grate at the Hudson United Brethren Church. He preceded her in death.
She retired as a receptionist at her son's business in Ashley, The Buckskin Shop.
Sadie was an avid IU Basketball Fan, celebrating their recent win with her family on Tuesday. She also enjoyed flower gardening and loved her animals. She was often found working the concession stands at the ball fields in Ashley.
She was a member of the Hudson United Brethren Church and the Ashley Masonic Lodge.
Surviving are a daughter, Cyndy (Mike) Chorpenning of Hudson; two sons, Terry (Elayne) Loucks of Angola and Jim (Linda) Loucks of Ashley; 10 grandchildren, Bryan (Katrina) Loucks, Jayson Chorpenning, Charleen Dargis, Jasmin Loucks, Levi Loucks, Trevor Loucks, Marissa Wynne, Jennifer Prisock, Jaime Hayward, and Jessica Flynn; 19 great-grandchildren, Tyler Loucks, Kayla Maestas, Tylor Murley, Cameron (Emily) Dargis, Danielle Dargis, Mason Dargis, Ellie Loucks, Anthony Loucks, Beau Loucks, Treyten Lepley, Audri Oster, Gary Hayward, Grace Hayward, Chandler Prisock, Paxton Girtman, Peyton Girtman, Noah Girtman, Myles Flynn, and Isabella Flynn; four great great-grandchildren, Eli Maestas, Grey Maestas, Wren Murley, and Aleigha Wynne; her cat, Oreo; and her grand dog, Reggie.
She was also preceded in death by a son, Rick Loucks; two sisters, Rozella Dembickie and Irene McPheeters; two brothers, Russell Owens and Harold Owens; and the father of her children, Gene Loucks.
Private graveside services will be in Circle Cemetery at Hudson.
Preferred memorials are to the Hudson United Brethren Church or the Community Humane Shelter of Steuben County.
