Ruth E. Rasp, 91, passed away Monday, June 11, 2012 at Camano Island, Washington, where she had resided since 2005. She had previously lived in Elkhart, Kendallville and Fort Wayne, Indiana.
She was born October 7, 1920 in Casper, Wyoming, to Daniel M. and Betsy Jane (Stillson) Haines. On December 6, 1942, in Key West, FL, she married Fred L. Rasp, Sr., who was serving as a submarine officer during World War II. He preceded her in death on June 24, 1993.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Daniel M. Haines, Jr. and Dr. Byron L. Haines.
Ruth received her Bachelor's degree from Hastings College in Hastings, Nebraska and her Master's degree from St. Francis College in Fort Wayne, IN. She was an elementary teacher for the East Noble School Corporation in Kendallville for 16 years and loved teaching kindergarten. In retirement, she chaired the board of the Day Care Center in Kendallville. Children brought her joy throughout her life. While living in Kendallville, she was a member, choir member, Elder, and Clerk of Session at the First Presbyterian Church. She also served on the Geneva Center Committee of Wabash Valley Presbytery. She was active in Tri Kappa, the Fort Wayne Women's Club, AAUW, PEO, and the Red Hat Society.
Surviving are a daughter, Dr. R. Jane (Dr. Joseph R.) McGeehan of Camano Island, WA, three sons, Dr. Fred L. (Cynthia S.) Rasp, of Fort Wayne, IN, James W. (Mary S.) Rasp of Elkhart, IN, and Steven K. (Wendy) Rasp of Owatonna, MN; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a brother, Myron E. Haines of Kearney, NE.
Funeral services will be Monday, June 18, 2012, at 11 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church, 201 South State Street, Kendallville. Burial will be in the Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.
Calling is Sunday, June 17, 2012, from 4 to 7 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville.
Preferred memorials are to the First Presbyterian Church in Kendallville.
