Obituary

Ruth Elaine (DePew) Weirich Berryhill, 84, of Avilla died Saturday, March 14, 2009, at 9:45 p.m. in her home following an extended illness.

Mrs. Berryhill has lived in Avilla since 2004, coming from Kendallville. She had worked at Firestone in Kendallville, Community State Bank in Avilla, and along with her husband, Arnold, owned and operated A & H Specialties in Kendallville from 1976 to 1991. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church in Kendallville and Gideon's International Auxiliary. She enjoyed gardening, playing piano and singing.

She was born June 2, 1924, in DeKalb County, Indiana, to Ralph Wilbur and B. Helen (Hawk) DePew. In 1946, she married Kenneth Weirich in Garrett. He preceded her in death in 1961. In 1971, she married Arnold Berryhill in Kendallville. He survives in Avilla.

Also surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Sue Weirich of Huntertown; two stepdaughters and their spouses, Brenda and Phil DeRosia of Ormond Beach, Florida, and Linda Sue and Bill Milhollin of Angola; three grandchildren and their spouses, Josh and Katie Weirich, Melissa and Steve Zabel, and Matt and Kristin Weirich; four step grandchildren, Chris Forbes, Eric Forbes, Jeromie Henderson, and Jessica Henderson; a great grandson, Brandt Weirich; five step great grandchildren, Alysia Forbes, Cody Forbes, Shelby Forbes, Steven Henderson, and Cameron Phillips; and a sister, Phyllis Balzer of Kendallville.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Marybell Fee;a brother, David DePew; a stepson, Steven Berryhill; and 2 step great granddaughters, Courtney & Cassandra Forbes.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at 11 a.m. at Faith United Methodist Church in Kendallville, with calling one hour prior to the service at the church. Rev. Leon Pomeroy will be officiating. Burial will be in Fairfield Cemetery, Corunna.

Honorary casketbearers will be Tom Balzer and Don Fee. Active casketbearers will be Josh Weirich, Melissa Zabel, Matt Weirich, Randy Fee, Craig Balzer and Jeromie Henderson.

Calling will be Tuesday, March 17, 2009, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville.

Preferred memorials are to Faith United Methodist Church, Gideon's International, or Parkview Noble Home Health & Hospice.
