Calling: Wednesday, May 15, 2013 - 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the funeral home ************************************************************ Ruby M. DeArmond, 97, of Angola died peacefully on Thursday, May 9, 2013, in Northern Lakes Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Angola with her family at her side.
She has resided in Angola for over five years, coming from Witmer Lake near Wolcottville.
Ruby had a calm, gentle spirit. She was an especially good cook and seamstress. She enjoyed serving and caring for others, reading the Bible, and gardening. She was a godly example to all who knew her.
During her life she served as a Sunday School teacher with a passion for young people. She also enjoyed her Bible study group at Witmer Lake. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Kendallville.
She was born January 6, 1916, in Caro, Michigan to Harry and Alice (Acker) Uhan. On December 30, 1935, in Auburn Hills, Michigan, she married Lester W. DeArmond. He preceded her in death on November 9, 1995.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Sherry DeArmond of Florida; a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Bob Haney of Angola; five grandchildren, Sue (Dave) Brachear of North Carolina, Daryl (Alicia) DeArmond of North Carolina, Jeff (Yvette) Reece of Rome City, Juli Shields of Angola, and Patrick (Chandra) Haney of Noblesville; 18 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth Uhan and Clarence Uhan and a great-grandson, Caleb Shields.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 15, 2013, at 1 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Pastor Thomas Clothier and Pastor Robert Farmer of the First Christian Church in Kendallville officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.
Pallbearers will be Pat Haney, Jeff Reece, Justin Reece, Camden Shields, Kyle Reece, Daryl DeArmond, Schyler Shields, and Aidan Haney.
Calling is Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. prior to the service in the funeral home.
