Obituary

Rose Marie Cook, 77, of Kendallville and formerly of Ashley died Thursday, July 19, 2018, at 7:38 a.m. in Parkview Noble Hospital, Kendallville.

She was born April 24, 1941, in Angola to Milburn and Arlieon (Wall) "Grandma Rose" Elkins.

She was the valedictorian of Salem Center High School and a graduate of Huntington University.

Mrs. Cook retired as a special needs teacher for Fort Wayne Schools.

Rose Marie enjoyed reading and traveling.

Surviving are a son, Gregory Barkey of Fort Wayne; a grandson, Josh Barkey of Fort Wayne; a sister, Nellie (Dan) DePew of Wolcottville; two brothers, Fred (Jeannie) Elkins of Helmer and John Elkins of Hudson; four nieces; and six nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Michael Barkey and Jeffery Barkey; and a sister, Lynn Etta Slone.

Funeral services will be Monday, July 23, 2018, at 6 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Brian Shepherd officiating.

Calling is Monday, July 23, 2018, from 5 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are to the education department at Huntington University.
