Obituary

Rolo Halsey, 94, of Angola and formerly of Pleasant Lake died Wednesday, December 6, 2017, at his residence.

He was born September 16, 1923, in LaGrange County to James Leonard and Etta (Wilson) Halsey.

Mr. Halsey was a lifetime farmer in Salem Township, Steuben County. He graduated in 1941 from Salem High School and was the last living member of his class.

He was a member of the Salem Center Presbyterian Church and most recently attended Mt. Zion Methodist Church.

Rolo enjoyed old tractors and working in his shop. He picked up woodworking in his later years and excelled at the craft. He also enjoyed travelling and spending winters in Florida. He was looking forward to heading to Florida soon.

Surviving are four sons, Dennis (Suzanne) Halsey of Angola, Craig (Barbara) Halsey of Angola, Larry (Alma) Halsey of Angola, and Darrell (Connie) Halsey of Angola; two stepdaughters, Beverly (John) Sullivan of Youngstown, Ohio, and Jeri (Mike) Seburn of Angola; a stepson, Jim (Debra) Shire of Coldwater, Michigan; four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and three sisters-in-law, Pat Frederick of Angola, Phyllis Phelps of Hamilton, and Margaret Coggeshall of Plant City, Florida.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 49 years, Eloise (Coggeshall) Halsey in 1996; his second wife of 17 years, Jennie Shire Halsey in 2014; and a brother, Clifford Halsey.

Funeral services will be Monday, December 11, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Hudson-Ashley Chapel, 612 North Main Street, Hudson with Rev. Dr. Maria Rutland of the Salem Center Presbyterian Church and Rev. Tamara Gerber of Mt. Zion Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Hollister Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Dennis Halsey, Craig Halsey, Larry Halsey, Darrell Halsey, Andy Halsey, and Vaughn Halsey.

Calling is Monday, December 11, 2017, from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Preferred memorials are to Salem Center Presbyterian Church, Mt. Zion Methodist Church, or to Gideon's International.
