Roger Eugene Lake, 81, of Big Long Lake, Hudson, Indiana, died Monday, September 18, 2023, at his residence with his family at his side.
He was born December 23, 1941, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, to Earl and Ruth (Adams) Lake.
On October 24, 1964, in Ossian he married Connie Elaine Smith.
Mr. Lake was a teacher for 33 years at Fort Wayne Community Schools. He taught fourth and fifth grades at Arlington Elementary and Glenwood Park Elementary.
He was a member of the Helmer Community Church.
Roger enjoyed golfing, woodworking, traveling, and spending winters in Largo, Florida. He was a collector of Santa Claus figurines, Emmett Kelly figurines, and trains and enjoyed displaying them during the Christmas season. He loved to go on pontoon rides and living the lake life. He dearly loved attending his grandchildren's and great grandchildren's activities.
Surviving are his wife of almost 59 years, Connie Lake of Big Long Lake; a daughter, Tamara (David) Mullins of Fort Wayne; two sons, Douglas (Rhonda) Lake of Big Long Lake and Matthew (Michelle) Lake of Malta, with summers in Indiana at Lake James; eight grandchildren, Katie (Aj) Godsey, Spencer (Kayla) Lake, Mason Lake, Emma Ruth Lake, Alex Lake, Gabi Mullins, Brady Johnson, and Bennett Johnson; four great grandchildren, Jeremiah Godsey, Bailee Godsey, Cole Godsey, and Carson Lake; a sister, Bonnie (Tom) Deuter of Bono, Arkansas; and a brother, Max Lake of Ossian.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas Lake and Keith Lake.
A celebration of Roger's life will be Saturday, September 23, 2023, at 4 p.m. at the Helmer Community Church on State Road 327 in Helmer with Pastor Donna Holcomb officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the church.
Preferred memorials may be directed to the Helmer Community Church.
