Obituary

Rodney Jay Kitchen, 57, of Wolcottville died Thursday, December 23, 2010, in Goshen General Hospital, Goshen.

Mr. Kitchen was a 1972 graduate of East Noble High School. He received an associates degree in electronics from ITT in Ft. Wayne. He was owner and operator of Kitchen TV & Appliance in Wolcottville and Kendallville for 30 years, and had most recently worked at Crest Homes in Middlebury.

He enjoyed camping, playing drums in a band, and dearly loved his grandchildren.

He was born November 15, 1953, in Kendallville to Doyne and Evelyn (Hoover) Kitchen. On December 2, 1978, in Kendallville he married Connie Ebey.

Surviving are his wife, Connie Kitchen of Wolcottville; a son and daughter-in-law, Aaron and Whittany Kitchen of Kendallville; a daughter and son-in-law, Tara and Shanon Layne of Goshen; four grandchildren, Lucy Kitchen, Peyton Kitchen, Evan Layne, and Caleb Jay Layne; his mother, Evelyn Kitchen of Kendallville; three sisters, Connie and Harold Doutt of Albion, Julie and Tim Pease of Kendallville, and Vicki Lash and her friend, Curtis Setser of Kendallville; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Phil and Betty Ebey of Wolcottville.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Funeral services will be Monday, December 27, 2010, at 11 a.m. in the Wolcottville United Methodist Church with Pastor Jack Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Wolcottville.

Casketbearers will be Aaron Kitchen, Shanon Layne, Tim Pease, Harold Doutt, Curtis Setser, and Jerry Ebey.

Calling will be Sunday, December 26, 2010, from 2 to 8 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville and one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.
