Robert H. Spillner, 81, of Kendallville died Sunday, September 18, 2011 at 9:47 p.m. in Provena Sacred Heart Home in Avilla.

Mr. Spillner was a graduate of Salem Center High School. He served honorably in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Robert was a member of the Moose Lodge No. 1301 for 62 years, Eagles Lodge, American Legion Post 86, and a life member of the V.F.W. Post 2749. He worked as a railroad dispatcher for 35 years for CONRAIL, and for the Vicksburg Police in Michigan for 15 years.

He was born on June 11, 1930 in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Roy and Nina Viola (Mills) Spillner. He was married on December 11, 2004 in Kendallville, Indiana to Mafalda Ferrier, who survives.

Also surviving is one daughter, Latonia Ziegert of Vicksburg, Michigan; one son, Tommie Spillner of Willcox, Arizona; two stepsons, Regan (Terri) Ford of Kendallville and Roger (Jody) Ford of Kendallville; and eleven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jack E. Spillner; and a sister, Sandra Spillner.

Funeral services will be Thursday, September 22, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. in St. John Lutheran Church, 301 South Oak Street, Kendallville with Rev. Paul B. Griebel officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery of Kendallville.

Visitation will be Wednesday, September 21, 2011 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, 222 South State Street, Kendallville and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

Preferred memorials are to the Moose Heart.
