Obituary

Robert "R.L." Shannon, 81, of Wawaka died Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at 9:05 p.m., in Northridge Village, Albion.

Mr. Shannon was a Journeyman Bricklayer, he had worked for the railroad, and worked for Excel Distribution in Albion. After retirement he mowed for the state at Chain of Lakes State Park and Tri County DNR. He also worked at Wal-Mart in Kendallville.

He had served in the United States Navy and was a life member of the VFW in Syracuse, the American Legion in Millersburg, and the Eagles in Ligonier.

He was born December 10, 1928, in Elkhart County, Indiana to Arthur and Emma Faye (Speckeen) Shannon. On March 2, 1991 in Albion, IN he married Kay Ann Bloom.

Surviving are his wife, Kay Ann Shannon of Wawaka; two daughters, Connie Spillman of Radcliffe, KY and Teresa Huffer of Colorado Springs, CO; one son, Scott (Jean) Shannon of Millersburg, IN; two step daughters, Jennie ( Duane) Luft of FL and Carrie(Mitch) Thompson of Wawaka, IN; one step son, Jeff (Becky) Weber of Vincennes, IN; eight grandchildren; six step grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; one great great grandson; two sisters, Betty Shannon of Syracuse and Marilyn Good of Oklawawa, FL.

He was preceded in death by one great grandchild.

Funeral services will be Saturday, June 12, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville, with Pastor Terry Hinds officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

Calling is Saturday, June 12, 2010 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville.

Preferred memorials are to North Ridge Village Nursing Home, Albion.
