Service: Tuesday, November 19, 2013 - 11 a.m. in St. John Lutheran Church, 301 South Oak Street, Kendallville. Burial in Prospect Cemetery, Ossian at 3 p.m.
Calling: Monday, November 18, 2013 - 2 to 8 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday ***************************************************************************** Robert E. "Bob" Richter, 75, of Albion died unexpectedly Saturday, November 16, 2013, in his residence.
He has lived in Albion since 1968, coming from Fort Wayne.
He served in the U.S. Army Reserves for eight years.
Mr. Richter retired after 32 years from Dana Weatherhead in Columbia City.
Bob was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Kendallville. He greatly enjoyed spending time with the Tuesday morning men's group doing maintenance work around the church.
He enjoyed woodworking and recycling. He had volunteered at the former Studio in Albion. He also liked to help his wife with her genealogy research. Bob was active with the Boy Scouts and was a member of the Order of Arrow.
He was born July 28, 1938, in Fort Wayne to Erwin W. and Eleanor (Bultemeyer) Richter.
On August 22, 1959, in Fort Wayne he married Judith E. "Judy" Ormsby. She survives in Albion.
Also surviving are two daughters, Karen L. (David) Johnson of Churubusco and Kelly R. Richter of Albion; a son, Kevin (Ruth Ann) Richter of Albion; six grandchildren, Ashley L. (John) Yuill of Lansing, Michigan, Cody D. (Kasey) Johnson of Albion, Cassandra L. Johnson of Churubusco, Katrina A. Richter of Albion, Spencer L. Richter of Albion, and Rachel E. Richter of Albion; two sisters, Sue Ann Stronczek of Fort Wayne and Jo Ann (Michael) Sienk of Fort Wayne; and a brother, Lynn D. Richter of Fort Wayne.
He was preceded in death of a grandson, Zachary Richter.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 19, 2013, at 11 a.m. in St. John Lutheran Church, 301 South Oak Street, Kendallville with Rev. Dr. Robert Shriner officiating. Burial will be in Prospect Cemetery in Ossian at 3 p.m.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Tuesday morning group at St. John, Ed Mertens, Jim Baldwin, Bob Probst, Jim Forbes, John Lutz, Larry Ott, Phil Stephan, and Keith Hart.
Active pallbearers will be David Johnson, John Yuill, Cody Johnson, Spencer Richter, Kevin Love, and Todd Setser.
Calling is Monday, November 18, 2013, from 2 to 8 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville and one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church.
Preferred memorials are to St. John Lutheran Church.
