Robert Leroy Poling, 87, of Lake of the Woods, Hudson, died Thursday, February 21, 2019, at Lutheran Life Villages in Kendallville.
He was born June 26, 1931, in Fort Wayne to Ora S. and Francis Catherine (Osborn) Poling. Robert honorably served in the US Navy from 1951 to 1955.
Mr. Poling was a supervisor for Kroger Distribution until his retirement in 1992 after 43 years.
Robert enjoyed volunteering at the Prairie Height Elementary School. He was an avid golfer and was proud of his hole-in-one shot. He dearly loved his family, especially spending time with his grandchildren. Boating on Lake of the Woods and living at the lake were his passion.
Surviving are two daughters, Deborah (Ed) Moyer of Lake of the Woods, Hudson, and Brenda K. (Greg) Stephens of Wolcottville; two sons, Terry (Kelly) Poling of Wolcottville and Kevin Scott of Greensboro, North Carolina; twelve grandchildren, Heather Badger, Sherri Parker, Andrew Robert Brown, Avery Joseph Kline, Tré Stephens, Brekkan Stephens, Jason Taylor, Samantha Taylor, Stephan Patrick Taylor, Ashley Taylor, Matthew Taylor, and Dylan Taylor; nine great-grandchildren, Austin Parker, Joel Little, Lily Blain, Kalie Blain, April Little, Mathieu Stephens, Ensley Kline, Trey Cox, Tabitha Cox; and a brother, Stephen Poling of Madison, Georgia.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Jean Poling and Carol J. Poling; and two brothers, Harlan Poling and Carl Poling.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at 10 a.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Chaplain Pete Meneghello, of Lutheran Life Villages officiating. Burial will be in Wright Cemetery near Stroh.
Honor guard services will be provided by the Orland American Legion Post 423 and active duty members of the US Navy.
Pallbearers are Andrew Brown, Tré Stephens, Avery Kline, Matthew Taylor, Greg Stephens, and Ed Moyer.
Calling is Monday, February 25, 2019 from 2 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.
Preferred memorials are to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Association.
