Robert Czupryn, 78, of Kendallville died Tuesday, September 8, 2009, at 10:05 a.m. in Parkview Noble Hospital, Kendallville.
Mr. Czupryn had lived in the Kendallville area since 1958, coming from Martinsville. He graduated from Hirsch High School in Chicago where he was one of their best football players. He received his bachelors degree from Purdue University and his masters degree from Indiana University. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1953 to 1955 and was stationed in Germany.
He was a teacher for 36 years, with 1 ½ years spent in Martinsville. For the remainder of his career, he taught Industrial Arts at Kendallville Middle School and Building Trades at East Noble High School. He also was a drivers education teacher and taught one year of Physical Education while at East Noble.
He was a member of Trinity Church United Methodist in Kendallville, Alpha Sigma Phi, and the Indiana State Teachers Association. He enjoyed woodworking, tennis, golf, watching football, and spending 16 winters in Florida. He always looked forward to his Wednesday night card club. He and his wife enjoyed traveling across the US and overseas.
He was born November 25, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois, to Stanley and Lucy (Novak) Czupryn. On January 21, 1956, in Wolcottville, he married Joan Dallas.
Surviving are his wife, Joan Czupryn of Kendallville; a daughter and son-in-law, Karen and Mark Dillon of Rochester, Michigan; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Kurt Czupryn of Houston, Texas and Brad and Cindy Czupryn of Dayton, Ohio; four grandchildren, Joe Czupryn, Michael Czupryn, Nathan Dillon, and Mike Dillon; and two sisters, Stella Gauzaski of Chicago and Rita Mazurek of McAllen, Texas.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Josephine Tunney and three brothers, Eddie Czupryn, Otto Czupryn, and Ritchie Czupryn.
Funeral services will be Saturday, September 12, 2009, at 11 a.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville, with Pastor G. Scott Pattison of Trinity Church United Methodist officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.
Honorary casketbearers will be Chuck Bahler and Robert Marley. Active casketbearers will be Joe Czupryn, Michael Czupryn, Nathan Dillon, Mike Dillon, Joe Freed and Adam Young.
Calling is Friday, September 11, 2009, from 4 to 8 pm at the funeral home and one hour prior to the services on Saturday.
Preferred memorials are to Parkview Noble Home Health & Hospice.
