ROBERT FRANKLIN BURTON, 83, of Stroh died Saturday, October 11, 2008, at 7:30 p.m. in Cameron Memorial Community Hospital, Angola, after a lengthy illness.
Mr. Burton had lived most of his life in Middle Point, Ohio, and moved to this area 30 years ago.
He was a World War II Army veteran, and had received the Silver Star Medal and the Medal of Conduct.
He retired as Postmaster of the Middle Point, Ohio, post office. He was a member of the National League of Postmasters of the United States, Lions Club in Middle Point, the Ohio State Highway Patrol Auxiliary, American Legion Post 178 in Van Wert, Ohio, the United Methodist Church, and was a past member of the Angola Moose Lodge.
He was born June 18, 1925, in Van Wert County, Ohio, to Charles Franklin "Frank" and Mabel (Baker) Burton. He married Olive (Terry) Amburgey on July 3, 1986, in Hindman, Kentucky.
Surviving are his wife, Olive Burton of Stroh; a son and daughter-in-law, Randall and Tina Burton of Newark, Delaware; a daughter and son-in-law, Kirsta and Alan Pillon of Burlington, Kentucky; two stepsons, Dave Patrick of LaGrange and Mike Watts of Stroh; two stepdaughters and their spouses, Louann and Clifford Collins of LaGrange and Lisa and L.D. Slone of Rome City; three grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; one great grandson; nine step great grandchildren; and three sisters, Mary Lou Frazier of Birmingham, Ohio, Linda Ann Fox of Van Wert, Ohio, and Nina Lee Eviston.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Raymond Burton.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, October 15, 2008, at 10 a.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville with Pastor Willie Collins officiating.
Calling will be Tuesday, October 14, 2008, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to the LaGrange County Animal Shelter or the Alzheimer's Association.
