Robert R. "Bob" Brennan, 87, of Kendallville died Monday, July 9, 2012, at 9:15 p.m. in the Laurels of DeKalb in Butler where he had resided since March.
He was a lifetime area resident. He graduated from Kendallville High School in 1943 and attended Purdue University.
Bob honorably served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army.
Bob and his wife began their married life farming. He later was a truck driver for 40 years. He retired from Hudson Trucking in Kendallville and drove for McCray Manufacturing in Kendallville.
He attended Faith United Methodist Church in Kendallville. He was a member of Kendallville VFW Post 2749, Kendallville American Legion Post 86, and Kendallville Elks Lodge 1194, where he was the oldest member.
He was an avid golfer and enjoyed getting together with his classmates of 1943.
He was born March 3, 1925, in Kendallville to Robert R. and Greta L. (Gifford) Brennan. On December 26, 1946, in Kendallville he married June E. Browand. She preceded him in death on October 25, 2010.
Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathy and Tom Smith of Kendallville and Linda and David Leamon of Kendallville; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey R. and Kay Brennan of Kendallville and Michael J. and Kathy Brennan of Elmhurst, Illinois; 13 grandchildren, Eric Smith, Nathan Smith, Jennifer Riecke, Melissa Andrews, Chuck Leamon, Brian Brennan, Joshua Brennan, Zachary Brennan, Angela Brennan, Callie Brennan, Sam Brennan, Greta Brennan, and Johnny Brennan; 18 great-grandchildren, Brennan Smith, Riley Smith, Mason Smith, Zakkary Howell, Chelsea Riecke, Quinton Howell, Lucas Riecke, Maya Andrews, Whitney Weimer, Paige Weimer, Walker Leamon, Kristi Brennan, Kelli Brennan, Nathan Brennan, Cameron Brennan, Allison Brennan, Owen Brennan, and Ava Brennan; and a sister, Rachel Steele of Washington Court House, Ohio.
He was also preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Lovett; and a son, Timothy Patrick Brennan on June 3, 1988.
Funeral services will be Friday, July 13, 2012, at 11 a.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 S. State St., Kendallville, with Pastor Leon Pomeroy officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.
Military graveside services will be provided by Kendallville VFW Post 2749, Rome City American Legion Post 381, and active duty members of the U.S. Army.
Casketbearers will be Eric Smith, Chuck Leamon, Brian Brennan, Joshua Brennan, Zachary Brennan, Zakkary Howell, Quinton Howell, Sam Brennan and Johnny Brennan.
Calling is Thursday, July 12, 2012, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. An Elks Lodge service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m.
Preferred memorials are to Foundations of Noble County (formerly known as the Noble County Training Center) or Laurels of DeKalb Memory Unit.
