Richard Prater, 69, of Kendallville died Monday, August 5, 2019, at 3:06 a.m. at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.
He was born March 30, 1950, in Alphretta, Kentucky, to Jobie and Lula (Thompson) Prater.
On January 14, 1972, in Kendallville he married Glema Moore.
Mr. Prater had worked at Steckley's Mill & Hatchery and Harry Sellers Gas Station both in Kendallville. He retired from Safe-Guard Automotive in Kendallville as a machinist.
Richard was a fan of the Cincinnati Reds and Kentucky Wildcats. He dearly loved his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife, Glema Prater of Kendallville; three daughters, Stephanie (Robert) Simpson of Kendallville, Jennifer Prater of Kendallville, and Kristie (Justin) Beall of Avilla; a son, Jonathan (Melissa) Prater of Kendallville; five grandchildren, Endia Simpson, Isabella Prater, Maxwell Beall, Lucy Beall, and Lillian Beall; five sisters, Joyce Reade of Fort Wayne, Diana (Mark) Reid of Kendallville, Brenda (Hank) Ochoa of Butler, Janice (Dan) Simmons of Kendallville, and Billie Ann Rowe of Louisville, Kentucky; and three brothers, David (Debbie) Prater of Rome City, Ron Prater of Waterloo, and Mike Prater.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Barb Sexton, Dorothy Prater, and Virginia Prater; and six brothers, Gene Prater, Don Prater, Dockie Prater, Sonny Prater, Joseph Prater, and Ted Prater.
Funeral services will be Thursday, August 8, 2019, at 1 p.m. at New Hope Baptist Church, 2900 N 500 E, Kendallville with Pastor Robert Boston officiating. Burial will be in Orange Cemetery near Rome City.
Pallbearers are Robert Simpson, Jonathan Prater, Justin Beall, Ron Prater, David Prater, Hank Ochoa, II, and Hank Ochoa, III.
Calling is Wednesday, August 7, 2019, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville.
Preferred memorials may be made to the family for funeral expenses.
