Richard L. Johnson, 82, of Kendallville and formerly of Rockford, Illinois, died Monday, May 30, 2011, in Lutheran Life Villages, Kendallville.
Mr. Johnson was employed by the Federal Aviation Agency for 35 years. He was an air traffic controller at Migs, Midway, and O'Hare airports all in Chicago, and retired as training officer from the Rockford Airport.
He honorably served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion Post 381, Rome City.
He was born December 29, 1928, in Rockford to Axel and Emelia (Johnson) Johnson. On December 16, 1960, in Rockford he married Beverly Reno.
Surviving are his wife, Beverly Johnson of Sylvan Lake; a daughter, Victoria (Les) Scheiss of Monroe Center, Illinois; a son, Dr. Greg (Carolyn) Johnson of Sylvan Lake; five grandchildren, Jeff (Jenny) Schiess, Anna (Todd) Clark, Kathryn Schiess, Hannah Johnson, and Nathaniel Johnson; two great grandchildren, Luke Schiess and Eric Schiess; and a sister, Margaret Wallschlaeger of Florida.
He was preceded in death by four brothers, Ed, Gunner, Evar, and Melvin Johnson.
Burial will be in Rockford, Illinois, with honor guard services provided by the Rockford American Legion Post.
