Richard W. Hartnup, 86, of Kendallville and formerly of Fort Wayne and Coldwater, Michigan, died Friday, October 2, 2009, in the Chandler House in Kendallville.

Mr. Hartnup had lived in Kendallville for two years. Most of his life was spent in Fort Wayne. After retirement, he and his wife lived at Coldwater Lake near Coldwater, Michigan.

He retired as Vice President of Coverall Rental Service in Fort Wayne where he had worked for 28 years.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, and the Shrine all in Fort Wayne. He was a World War II Air Force veteran, and a purple heart recipient along with several other meritorious awards.

He was born December 19, 1922, in Fort Wayne to George & Velma (Moffat) Hartnup. On September 2, 1943, in Nashville, Tennessee, he married Katherine J. Jenkins.

Surviving are his wife, Katherine J. Hartnup of Kendallville; a daughter and her friend, Judi Armstrong and Ivan Pepple of Kendallville; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Tami Hartnup of Fort Wayne; two grandchildren; and three sisters-in-law, Virginia and Norval Cranford, Mary Nichols, and Peg and Coy Adams; a brother-in-law, Harold Jenkins; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Helen Hubler.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, October 6, 2009, at 11 a.m. in the Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville, with Rev. Dan Barker officiating. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Fort Wayne, with graveside military services.

Calling will be Monday, October 5, 2009, from 4 - 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
