Obituary

Richard Lee “Dick” Glant, 89, of LaGrange, Indiana, died Sunday, June 28, 2026, at his residence.

He was born August 8, 1936, in Goshen, Indiana, to Delmas and Evelyn (Huff) Glant.

On August 18, 2022, in LaGrange he married Peggie (Smith) Strawser.

Dick proudly served his country in the National Guard. He spent many years in the asphalt industry and retired as the manager of asphalt plants for Rieth-Riley, Stoneco, and Johnson. He was known for his strong work ethic, dedication to his profession, and commitment to his family.

Outside of work, Dick embraced life with enthusiasm. Throughout the years, he enjoyed motorcycle racing, golfing, and pitching horseshoes. Perhaps his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren, teaching them that life was meant to be enjoyed and that a little playful buffoonery could create memories that would last a lifetime. His sense of humor, infectious smile, and playful spirit will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Surviving are his wife, Peggie Strawser Glant of LaGrange; his children, Laurie (Robert) Long of LaGrange, Dana (Scott) Hall-Reed of Fremont, Melanie (Craig) Hall-McBride of Syracuse, Sherrie (John) Larimer of Howe, Teresa (Tyrone) Stewart of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Michael (Karen) Strawser of Wolcottville; seven grandchildren, Emelia (Simon) Hoying, Robert Long, Jr., Olivia (Jacob) Jackson, Nick Diettrich, Madeline Diettrich, Gabrielle Reed, and Eric Reed; an additional 11 grandchildren through Peggie's family; one great-grandchild expected in July; and 12 great-grandchildren through Peggie's family, with another expected in August.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Steven Glant; and his sister, Mona Lou Thompson.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, July 9, 2026, at 11 a.m. at the LaGrange First United Methodist Church, 209 West Spring Street, LaGrange with the Reverend Crystal Jacobson officiating.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the memorial service at the church.

Memorials may be directed to LaGrange First United Methodist Church.

Young Family Funeral Home, Wolcottville Chapel, State Road 9 North Wolcottville is assisting the family with arrangements.
