Celebration of Life: Saturday, December 8, 2012, from noon to 3 p.m. in O'Sullivan's, 1808 West Main Street, Fort Wayne **************************************************

Richard Allen "Rick" Frey, of Kendallville, died early Thursday morning, November 22, 2012, in his home. He was 63.

He was born June 25, 1949, in Frankfort, IN to Carl Frey and Ruth (Curtis) Frey. His childhood love for athletics blossomed at Purdue University, where he was a founding member of the Purdue Rugby Club. He continued to play, coach, and teach rugby throughout his life.

While at Purdue, he also earned a Masters degree in Physical Education.

Mr. Frey moved to this area in 1986 from Lafayette. He shared his passion for sports and outdoor activity for many years as the Recreational Director for the Kendallville Park Department. He retired from that position after 20 years of service.

Mr. Frey loved animals and the outdoors. He enjoyed camping, gardening, hunting, and keeping bees. His many interests also included carpentry, leatherwork, and historical reenactment, most notably at the Feast of the Hunters Moon for the past 33 years. He also worked with the Apple Festival of Kendallville for many years.

He was a dedicated father to his children, Jedediah Frey of Lexington, Kentucky; Appolinia Frey of Indianapolis; and Caleb Frey of Indianapolis. He is also survived by Bridget (Ammond) Frey of Kendallville; his mother, Ruth Martin of Tarpon Springs, Florida; and a brother and sister-in-law, Steven and Linda Frey of Frankfort.

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, December 8th from 12-3pm at O'Sullivan's, 1808 West Main Street, Fort Wayne.

Preferred memorials are to The Noble County Humane Shelter or Black Pine Animal Sanctuary.
