IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Richard H.
Brown
February 2, 1934 – October 19, 2011
Richard H. "Dick" Brown, 77, of Auburn passed away on Wednesday, October 19, 2011, at home.
He was born in Kearny, New Jersey, on February 2, 1934, to the late William Terry and Clara Mae (Rupp) Brown.
After graduating in 1952 from North Arlington, New Jersey High School, Mr. Brown entered the U.S. Navy and served four years in the submarines as fire control operator with deployment in the Mediterranean Sea.
He attended Monmouth College, Monmouth, Illinois, joined Sigma Phi Epsilon, majored in business and it is there he met his wife, Karen Johnsen. They married May 30, 1959, in Niles, Illinois.
They moved to New Jersey where he was employed by Ballentine Brewery in Newark. Automation eliminated his job and presented the opportunity to take a position with General Motors in Saginaw, Michigan, at Central Foundry. Most of his career he worked in accounting. When data processing came in and General Motors brought EDS, he moved to Saginaw Steering Gear until 1987. Downsizing began so Richard accepted a transfer to EDS's new facility in Herdon, Virginia. Richard retired from GM/EDS in 1994 after 30 years of service.
While in Saginaw, he was active in the General Motors golf league, Washington Society, and Gandy Dancers. Richard coached flag football and Little League baseball. He remained a New York Giant and Yankee fan his whole life.
After two years of retirement, his wife who was working for the CIA, took an assignment overseas, and they spent three years in New Delhi, India, and four years in Athens, Greece. This afforded him the opportunity to travel to many different countries in Europe, Australia and Africa. His wife retired in 2003, and they settled in Auburn where their three sons were living at that time.
Surviving are his wife, Karen Brown of Auburn; three sons, Eric (Sherry) Brown of Sabattus, Maine, Christopher Brown of Dothan, Alabama, and Scott (Beth Michael) Brown of Auburn; two grandsons, Joshua Brown of Fort Wayne, and Samuel Brown of Auburn; his step grandchildren, Darcy Flanagan, Carrie Flanagan and Matissee Flanagan all of Louisville, Kentucky; many nieces and nephews; and he was Papa to grandnieces, Madison and Natalie Schultis of Auburn.
Mr. Brown was preceded in death by brothers William T. and George W. Brown.
There will be no services or calling.
