Sears Schaffner, 104, of Columbus, Ohio, and formerly of Wolcottville, passed away on Friday, March 22, 2013, at the Westminster/Thurber Retirement Village in Columbus, Ohio.
Born on June 24, 1908, to Clyde and Laura Mellinger in Wolcottville, Indiana, her love of life, laughter, and smiles will be greatly missed by anyone whose life she touched.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Floyd E. Sears; her second husband, Harry Schaffner; her daughter, Barbara; three brothers; and three sisters.
Reva is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Sears Darrow, and son-in-law, Edward (Ted) Darrow, of Columbus, Ohio; three grandchildren and their spouses, Douglas and Jane Darrow of London, Kentucky, David and Sue Darrow of Austin, Texas, and Deanne and Douglas Dickey of Kansas City, Kansas; six great grandchildren: Bradley and Brian Darrow, Alex Darrow, and Austin, Allison, and Adam Dickey; two step-daughters, Phyllis Klinger and Carol Schaffner both of Michigan; and five step-grandchildren.
She attended Ball State University, St. Joseph's College, and Manchester College and taught in the Rome City School for 25 years. Reva and Floyd Sears owned the Sears Grocery in Wolcottville for many years.
She was active in the Wolcottville United Methodist Church, the Wolcottville Community Club, and was a life-time member of the Order of the Eastern Stars. In 1954, Reva was an OES Grand Officer in the state of Indiana. She enjoyed knitting, bingo, shuffleboard and all kinds of games and traveling throughout most of her life. Reva was a real people person.
Funeral Service will be Friday, March 29, 2013, at 11 a.m. in the Wolcottville United Methodist Church with Rev. Carldean Merrifield officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Cemetery, Wolcottville.
An additional memorial service for Reva will be held in the Chapel at Westminster/Thurber in Columbus, Ohio, in May.
Calling will be Thursday, March 28, 2013, from 5 to 8 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, State Road 9 North, Wolcottville and one hour prior to services at the church. An Eastern Star service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be given to the Wolcottville United Methodist Church, Wolcottville or Westminster/Thurber Life Care Fund in Columbus, Ohio. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
