Rebecca Ruth (Morr) Kurtz, 73, of Kendallville passed away Friday, May 29, 2015, at 3:08 a.m. in her residence in Woodside, New York.
She had resided in Woodside, New York, with her daughter's family for the past eight years after being a lifetime resident of Kendallville.
Ms. Kurtz retired from doing administrative work in various professions. Her life's passion revolved around dedicating her time, resources, and love to her family -†her parents, brothers, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and their families were the source of her joy and happiness throughout her life. She loved nature and being outdoors especially around water, flowers, trees and birds and one would often catch her taking the time to simply look at the sky, breathing in its surrounding beauty. She also loved music and loved to dance, especially in her younger years, appearing on TV and winning many dance contests.
She was born January 10, 1942, in Elkhart to Robert Elmer and Betty Dean (Wray) Morr. Her father preceded her in death. Her mother survives in Kendallville.
Also surviving are two daughters, Dana (Buck) Scalzo of Mongo and Erin (Steven) Taylor of Woodside, New York; a son, Dan (Chapin) Kurtz of Omaha, Nebraska; and three brothers, Charles (Sandy) Morr of Cree Lake, James (Claudia) Morr of Royer Lake, and Richard (Cheryl) Morr of Lake of the Woods.
She was also preceded in death by a grandson, Grant Matthew Kurtz.
Surviving grandchildren are Brooke (Ross) & Mike Bentley, Chad Ross, Katie (Ross) & Erik Burkley, Ashley & Brandon Smith, Paige Kurtz, Steven Taylor, Jr., and Parker Kurtz.
Surviving great-grandchildren are Kaylee Bentley, Damon Bentley, Mikayla Ross, Trey Sparkman, Cameron Smith, Kloey Smith and Gunner Burkley.
Funeral services will be Friday, June 5, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. in Young Family Funeral Home, Kendallville Chapel, 222 South State Street, Kendallville with Rev. Ricky Criswell of the Universal Life Church officiating. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery, Kendallville.
Calling is Friday, June 5, 2015 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are to the St. Jude Cancer Research Center in honor of her grandson, Grant Matthew Kurtz, August 31, 1997 - February 16, 2013 and in memory of Rebecca Kurtz.
