Obituary

Raymond L. "Ray" Scott, 88, of Kendallville, Indiana died Saturday, May 9, 2026, at Lutheran Life Villages in Kendallville.

He was born June 15, 1937, in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Alexander W. and Margaret (Henderson) Scott. They moved to Kendallville in 1949.

Ray was a 1955 graduate of Kendallville High School, and a 1959 graduate of Purdue University, where he received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.

He joined the Indiana Air National Guard at Baer Field in Fort Wayne in April of 1960. He was activated into the U.S. Air Force in October of 1961 and was deployed to France during the Berlin Crisis. He returned home in 1962 and returned to duty in the Air Guard until being honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant in 1967.

He married Patricia Young on June 25, 1960. She preceded him in death in 1992. He then married Margaret "Peg" (Gillian) Slough on May 15, 1993. She preceded him in death in 2016.

Mr. Scott had a long, successful engineering career that took him to locations around the world. He worked for International Harvester, Vestil Manufacturing, and Quick Tanks.

Throughout his life, Ray was a dedicated and sometimes ferocious voice for the common good as a servant on numerous boards and committees, including the Kendallville Chamber of Commerce Board, the Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce and the Angola Chamber of Commerce. He was also active in the Kendallville Plan Commission, EDAC, Kendallville Redevelopment Commission, Noble County Parks Advisory Group, Kendallville's Public Library Board, Park Board, and a founding member of the Kendallville Heritage Association.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Kendallville, Kendallville Kiwanis Club, Kendallville Lions Club. In addition, he was the founder and past chairman of the Noble County Lions Eye Bank. Ray was honored as Kendallville's Citizen of the Year for 2011.

Surviving are two daughters, Tamara Scott (James) Stephens of Williamstown, Massachusetts, and Gretchen Slough Bradley (Paul Winebrenner) of Tomball, Texas; two grandchildren, Dr. Gabriel Stephens of Spring Valley, New York, and Abigael Stephens Lantiqua of Seattle, Washington.

Private graveside services were held at Lake View Cemetery in Kendallville.
